February 2nd - We have had snow!  And wind!  They actually called a lot of things off this past weekend and then of course it was not as nasty as they predicted.  The snow is beautiful and we need the cover and moisture.  The temps spent a week at below zero even for the high so some nicer weather is appreciated.

February 9th - Hollis takes first!  The Suzuki School presented the play Vanessa wrote based on Old King Cole at the Kirkwood Mall on Saturday afternoon and the kids (and Vanessa) did well!  The weather has turned from nasty cold to pretty seasonable.  We have a lot of snow, the most we have had since 1997 I believe.  Gas prices are high and the wind blows.  Zion sings all the time (makes up songs and sings ones he knows) and has quite the little sense of humor.  Loves the outdoors which is a switch from last year!  For the better of course.

February 15th - Hollis takes first again!  Hollis is doing great in speech this year and took first at the Bismarck High Speech meet in the poetry division.  We went skiing on Thursday and had a great time although it was cold and windy.  I took Zion and even though his legs were wobbly and I was S-O-R-E after holding him up all the way down the hill, he kept saying "Let's do that again!"  He thought the ski lift was great.  We tried the bunny hill a couple of times but that was even harder on my back, going up holding the tow line (very low down) and holding him, and all he wanted to do was ride the ski lift so I thought, why not?  Let's go!  On Friday night we went up to Minot to an old time family dance.  Polkas and real old time music.  That was also fun.  After the speech meet on Saturday, the speech team held a dance in Washburn as a fund raiser and asked Vanessa and I to chaperone so that was of course much different (and to my taste, MUCH less likeable) music for the most part.  Now for those of you who have preserved this far, the big news is we are going to have a baby!  Due around September 11th.  Well, that is all for this week!

February 22nd - Hollis takes first again!  Going great guns this year.  On Friday morning I left for Brandon Manitoba with Jasper, Starlit, Madison and our good friend Deone with her 2 boys Zach and Austin.  The Suzuki Institute up there was offering a 2 day workshop for violin, viola, cello and guitar.  The guitar instructor was our own dear teacher from Bismarck, Sarah Jensen.  The weather was great and the whole trip was tiring but very informative, challenging and inspiring!  At least to me!  I will get some pictures put up.  Friday morning before leaving I sang with Gordon and Duane (Dennis could not make it) at Gordon's mothers funeral in Washburn at the Baptist Church.  Gordon is one of the quartet I sing with.  My most excellent friend George had a birthday on Saturday the 21st and I would tell you how old he is but my calculator couldn't go that high!  Oz has a birthday in February (on the 19th I finally found out) but I can never remember exactly when but wish him a happy birthday if you get a chance.
