August 3rd - More really nice weather here, it has not been over 90 for several weeks and mostly in the lower 80's so that is nice.  Big events coming next week!  28th anniversary for Vanessa and me on the 10th and of course the old guy turns older as I will be 50 on the 11th. We have a new web site for a wedding music business we are trying to kick off at http://www.oldhatmusic.com/tophat/ so check that out for some new pictures.  The kids went to a VBS program last week and loved it and the local church we attend is having theirs this week during the day so they will attend that also.  We found out on Friday that the institute in Bismarck has been cancelled so Vanessa is not going to ND.

August 10th - 28 years of marriage does not even seem possible - thanks be to God as He is the only one that could have made it work!  Turning 50 is a bit hard to grasp as well, 1/2 a century!  Well, we finally have summer weather, hot and humid!  I like air conditioning a lot! Ross & Janice arrived last evening with the last of our stuff (the little trailer with the important stuff, paintings etc).  The kids attended VBS at our local church last week and Jasper & Starlit helped out.  Jasper did the games and Starlit did the music with the kids.  They sang at church yesterday and did a good job.

August 17th - Lots of news.  Sent the 4 year old paint mare (Pearl) up for schooling to The University of Findlay in Findlay Ohio.  Vanessa's cousin Linda is the barn manager and an instructor in the horse training program there and they had a sudden need for a horse so we sent Pearl up with Ross and Janice.  Yvonne went along and they used her truck and trailer.  it is about 270 miles from here.  Zion went with them and then Vanessa and the girls went up later.  They went because we are staining the floor in the original shelter house and when you put the sealant on it you can not be in the house so I said they should just go up to visit Linda and Mike and the kids also.  Jasper and I are haying for Duvon and working on the floor.  I scrubbed it with a floor scrubber today and then mopped it and then we stained it.  Will put the first coat of sealer on tomorrow (it needs 2 coats) so it will be stinky for a while.

August 24th - The floor looks good!  And the dust level should be MUCH better!  The trip to Ohio went well.  Ross & Janice left yesterday to meander home after Janice's annual appointments in Rochester on August 31st so pray that all checks out fine.  We did 3 nights of prison ministry this weekend and that was a thoroughly wonderful and yet exhausting time.  Friday night Dan and family had bus problems and did not make it SO Starlit and I (Jasper was helping Cathryn and her mother with goats at the Kentucky State Fair) were the only music.  We sang for about 45 minutes.  about 20 ladies made first time commitments for salvation and many more asked for prayer for various needs.  All-in-all it was a remarkable time.  The 3 Utz girls came and stayed with us for 2 nights and Starlit and them had a blast.  We also sang Saturday afternoon at the Leota Frolic and Jazmyn and Vanya came up on stage and Jazmyn sang "If You're Happy and you Know it" and Vanya did the actions and of course everyone totally loved that!  A hard act to follow I can tell you.  We continue to have nice weather and are getting more hay put up.

August 31st - Where does the time go?  August is gone and fall is peeking around the corner.  We had a picnic here for the local UMC cluster group (local United Methodist Churches) and then open mic/jam session and it was a good time.  Nice weather, good food and music!  The baler broke down and we are going to take it to the dealer for repair.  There is a shaft that needs to be pressed out and we simply can't do that here!  We tried but "I fought the baler and the baler won!"
